Google Wave Will Rock!

The Future of the Internet-Again! Google really gets it. They present their new Google Wave BEFORE it is ready so that it will be a truly open service. They created it based on a question: What would email look like if it was created today? Google Wave is the answer to this questions.
They reminded us that it was created 40 years ago before the internet...Can u imagine a world without internet?!
They have created a hosted conversation including IM which a live transmission of typing-they claim that 50% of your time in IM is wasted waiting to see what someone is typing. Their new version allows to to spend 100% of your time reading and writing since you can see what someone is typing and respond at the same time. This youtube presentation was Google presenting to developers and included applause from the audience for certain features-and some bugs....
Check out this presentation to see what your email will look like in the future: http://andywibbels.com/2009/05/google-wave-keynote/

My First Virtual Conference

I just registered for my first virtual conference--but I have a feeling that it wont be my last.
Digital Marketing World which is sponsored by Marketing Profs will be held on April 1st in the comfort of your own home or office. The only downside that I can think of is that the sponsors will have my email to nudge me with.

As you know, I am a big fan of David Meerman Scott and will defintely attend his session:

2:00pm–2:45pm EST
The New Rules of Viral Marketing
David Meerman Scott, author and marketing strategist

Following the worldwide best selling book, The New Rules of Marketing and PR, David Meerman Scott’s new book, World Wide Rave, focuses on the power of viral marketing online. Attend this presentation—just a few weeks after the launch of the new book—and be among the first to learn from David about how to create triggers that get millions of people to spread your ideas and tell your stories. Whether you market to businesses or consumers, a World Wide Rave is when people around the world are talking about you, your company, and your products. It’s when online buzz drives buyers to your virtual doorstep. And it’s when tons of fans visit your Web site and your blog because they genuinely want to be there. Learn how to take your marketing to the next level by following the six rules of “The Rave”:

1. Nobody cares about your products (except you)
2. No coercion required
3. Lose control
4. Put down roots
5. Create triggers that encourage people to share
6. Point the world to your (virtual) doorstep

C u there!

Gartner joins the Blogging Party

Gartner has finally decided to encourage their analysts to get into the Blogsphere and to create a framework for it. http://blogs.gartner.com/
There are 45 analysts listed and 17 of them have not yet blogged. Most certainly this list will be much shorter in a few months.

One of the interesting blogs is not an analyst but rather a promotion for the Gartner book on Hypecycles: MASTERING THE HYPE CYCLE : How to Choose the Right Innovation at the Right Time discussing the use of Hype Cycles.

One interesting use of the blog is Mark Driver who used the blog to encourage participation in one of his upcoming sessions at the Web Innovation Conference:

"Do you have questions related to the sessions I’m hosting at the Web Innovation Conference this week? Put them in the comments here and I will try to address them during the Q&A portion of the session or as a followup blog post after the session."

Carter held a very interesting email interview with Andrew Spender, Gartner's VP of Corporate Communications which reveals the current official answers to your questions about how this is going to work....

Mapping out Social Media

This is a great post on social media illustrated with maps of : the world of social media, online communities, and an internet trend map.

http://technobabble2dot0.wordpress.com/2007/07/31/social-media-maps/

The map of social networks shows the international spread of the sites including one I have never heard of: http://www.hi5.com/ which is considered the most international of all and on their home page gives you options for: english, french, spanish, dutch, german, portuguese, italian, dutch and romanian.
